Scoring system and signs of appendicitis

Perforation of the appendix can lead to a peri-appendiceal abscess (a collection of infected pus) or diffuse peritonitis (infection of the entire lining of the abdomen and the pelvis). Tzanakis scoring system incorporates the presence 4 variables made up of specific signs of appendicitis (presence of right lower abdominal tenderness = 4points and rebound tenderness = 3), laboratory findings (presence of white blood cells greater than 12,000 in the blood = 2) as well as ultrasound findings (presence of positive ultrasound scan findings of appendicitis = 6), to which scores are allocated, in the computing of a scoring to predict the presence of appendicitis.
Appendicitis is the most common pediatric condition requiring emergency abdominal surgery. Don’t ever delay getting medical attention if you suspect appendicitis. Never try to treat appendicitis with alternative therapies alone.
